Richard “Herbie” Battye (Capt) is a widely experienced and internationally respected independent marine consultant who has operated around the globe and now provides independent consultancy services advising clients in the oil, gas and LNG shipping industries on port, terminal, offshore, shipping and ice operations.
He has over 40 years marine operational and shipping experience initially having served in the Shell Fleet for almost 20 years, including LNG tankers on the Algeria: UK and Brunei: Japan routes.
Herbie has also worked in shore-based marine operations for the Shell Group companies and later in marine projects providing advice on marine facility and LNG shipping organisation for Shell Gas Lanka and Shell Philippines Exploration (Malampaya gas field) and on offtake systems for a number of crude oil Floating Storage Units in Philippines, Nigeria, and Iran.
His last Shell Group position was as marine co-coordinator for Sakhalin Energy developing the future marine and export shipping of both crude oil and LNG where he provided marine logistics to the offshore construction and production sites and services, including pollution control, advice on ship interface with loading facilities, platforms as well as supply base and specific shipping advice to the prospective LNG buyers, for the LNG terminal at Prigorodnoye Russia.
Herbie holds a Master Mariner Certificate of Competence (Foreign going) and is BA (Economics & Politics).
